Contador Stoically Takes Two!
Although media speculation prior to the 2009 Tour de France, obsessively
focused on the return of Lance Armstrong and his attempt to win another
Tour at the age of 37, and if Lance could get around the conflict with
Alberto Contador, his teammate and 2007 winner, but cold reality trumped
fanciful pre-race narratives. The Spaniard, a decade younger and clearly
stronger as the race progressed, steered clear of the press pool and
stoically showed his superiority. Not to minimize the enormity of
Armstrong’s impressive performance after a three year layoff, finishing
third in the Tour de France would be any lesser rider’s idea of a
spectacular achievement. Armstrong showed that he still has the right
stuff. Just not quite as much as Contador has. But there was so much
more drama and many more accomplishments in this terrific Tour! The
Schleck brothers, Andy and Frank, kept Contador and Armstrong in a state
of anxiety throughout the 22 stages. Andy earned a place on the podium
finishing second; Frank was not far behind in earning fifth place. And
the Brits shone as never before. Mark Cavendish powered his way into the
sprinters’ Hall of Fame with six stunning stage wins (topping his four
in ‘08), and Bradley Wiggins showed that pre-race speculation that this
might be his year weren’t that far off. Finishing fourth, he modestly
observed, “It’s no mean feat finishing behind the three guys on the
podium. And I don’t mind admitting that they are much better bike riders
than I am.” The 2009 Tour proved to be a three-week drama with one
exciting stage after another. You can experience one of the best Tours
ever in this thrilling WCP DVD!

Denis - The Menace!
Powering through the streets of rainsoaked Rome, 2009 Tour of Italy
leader Denis Menchov has less than half a mile to ride before he is
finally crowned the definitive winner. But then –suddenly, unexpectedly–
disaster strikes. How can the Russian recover in time? Or, will he lose
at the last possible moment? A magnificent saga of high drama, courage
and low cunning, the Tour of Italy 2009 is a three-week two-wheeled
battle for victory-and one which truly goes down to the wire. Denis
Menchov the tactiturn Russian hero has to face a sometimes unholy
alliance of Italian riders, from the fiery 2007 Giro champion Danilo Di
Luca to the impulsive, ultra-aggressive Franco Pellizotti to the
melancholy, introverted Ivan Basso. All these local stars are determined
to topple the Russian giant –by almost any means. As Rome’s dramatic
finale looms larger and larger on the horizon, Menchov’s lead drops from
minutes to a bare handful of seconds. But that’s not all. The Giro also
features the comeback of seven times Tour winner Lance Armstrong, the
desperate bid for power by his team-mate Levi Leipheimer and the epic
sprint victories by Mark Cavendish –just 24 but already cycling’s
hottest property. With backdrops as dramatic and dignified as the
soaring Dolomite mountains, the ever-daunting Alps and finishing in the
shadow of Rome’s ancient Coliseum, this year’s Tour of Italy was the
race’s centenary edition - and it lived up to every expectation. Don’t
miss it. Commentary by Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwen.

Featuring:
*new and exclusive interviews*/ with the people closest to
*Lance Armstrong*, */'Lance and Le Tour'/* takes readers behind the
scenes of the greatest Tour de France rider's often fraught – and
continuing - relationship with the biggest bicycle race in the world.
What was it like to ride alongside Armstrong to his first seven Tour
victories? His former teammates, and some of the biggest names in
cycling, *Viatcheslav Ekimov*, *Roberto Heras*, *'Chechu' Rubiera*,
*Victor Hugo Pena* and *George Hincapie* guide us through each of
Armstrong's wins at the Tour, providing unique insights and stories from
their years of dominance.
Then there's the background to the Armstrong story. His first team
manager *Eddy Borysewicz* talks about Armstrong's amateur days. His
Motorola teammate *Sean Yates* remembers Armstrong's pre-cancer career.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Scott Shapiro explains Armstrong's cancer treatment and
how he removed Armstrong's brain tumor. Trek's inside man Scott Daubert
recalls what it was like to build bikes for a demanding champion. And
sports psychologist Professor Ian Maynard tries to understand
Armstrong's thought processes.
But despite the success and the publicity he brought to the Tour,
Armstrong was often treated with less than affection by the press and
public, particularly in France. Former Cycle Sport editor Luke
Edwardes-Evans explains why the 1998 Festina scandal changed the way
every future Tour champion would be viewed. One of France's most
respected cycling correspondents, *Jean-Francois Quenet*, reveals why
France has found Armstrong so hard to live with. While *Jim Ochowicz*,
the father of modern US cycling and Armstrong's long-time friend,
recalls what it was like to be the boss of the first American team to
compete at the Tour.
Yet the Armstrong story is still developing as quickly as it ever has.
Bringing the legend right up to date, 'Lance and Le Tour' looks at
Armstrong's retirement years and his amazing comeback.
And finally, hot off of the Champs-Elysees, there is the exclusive
inside story from the 2009 Tour de France.
